GE Candidates Urged To Be Cautious When Discussing Mental Health

Today on Morning Focus, we were joined on the line by Dr John Hillery, Former President of the College of Psychiatrists as we mentioned how the College is urging General Election Candidates to be cautious with the language they use while discussing Mental Health.

As the terms they use can create hurt, further stigma and misinformation around mental illness disorders and distress. While the College welcomes references to developing Mental Health Services, mental health promotion and other proposals around mental health over the next few days of intense pre-general election activity it asks that they refrain from using stigmatising and inappropriate terms related to mental health and illness.
