FF Rift Over GE Candidate Selection Strategy

A row has broken out in Clare Fianna Fáil over the party’s candidate selection policy ahead of the next General Election.

The National Headquarters have decided that two candidates are to be selected by local members when the party holds its convention in Ennis next week.

However, there is disquiet among some at an additional order that means one candidate is to be chosen to represent East Clare, and another from West Clare.

With four candidates going forward for convention, it means that members will choose from Timmy Dooley and Cathal Crowe, and between John Hillery and Rita McInerney.

Councillor Cathal Crowe, FF member of Shannon MD, Clare County Council, has decided that he will not be running in this general election.
