Clare’s senator claims a state grant to help the elderly make changes to their homes is being abused.
He has said that people who are “on the verge of passing away or going into a nursing home” are receiving it.
Senator Martin Conway (FG) says the taxpayer is pumping tens of thousands of euro into properties that are then sold or rented when their elderly owner either dies or moves into a nursing home.
