Clare Students Trace Steps Of WWI Soldier

Students of a Clare school have been trying to commemorate an Irish WWI soldier who was killed in battle.

Sergeant Edward Lynch, who hails from Cork, was shot and killed outside the village of La Bassée in Northern France a few days before Christmas in 1914.

Councillor Cathal Crowe is a 6th class teacher in the Parteen National School and spotted Lynch’s Death Plaque for sale on Ebay.

Curious, his class attempted to track down Lynch’s family and have now traveled to Belgium to lay a wreath in the town.
