The decision has been made to cancel all communions and confirmations in Clare, following a phone call and email from a Senior Specialist in Public Health Care medicine to the Killaloe diocesan office. The advice comes following a rise in the numbers testing positive for Covid-19. In the conversation it was made clear that the problem is not with the actual ceremony and implementation of best practice in the Churches and with the schools, but with the gatherings and parties which arise afterwards and – many of which are attended by elderly relatives and friends. Bishop Fintan Monahan is now urging all parishes to comply with the latest advice, despite the inconvenience it will present for families.

On Thursday’s Morning Focus, Gavin Grace spoke to Bishop Fintan Monahan about the cancellations.
