Young Woman Recovers In Hospital After Being Struck By Bus In Doolin

A young woman is recovering in hospital after she was struck by a bus near Doolin.

The incident happened at around 6.30 last evening on the coast road between the Cliffs of Moher and Doolin.

It’s understood the woman in her 20s from Brazil, but staying locally, was hit by a passing bus at Doonagore around 6.30 last evening.

The bus driver, fearing he had struck someone, stopped his vehicle and flagged down a passing motorist, following which, the pair carried out a search of the unlit area and quickly located the casualty lying in a field.

A rapid response advanced paramedic unit from Ennis was dispatched to the scene along with an ambulance from Kilrush almost 50 kilometres away.

The Irish Coast Guard was requested by the ambulance service to assist at the incident until paramedics arrived, while, volunteers attached to the nearby Doolin station were alerted and mobilised.

The woman was taken by ambulance University Hospital Limerick and while her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, she’s understood to have sustained a broken leg.

Gardaí at Ennistymon are investigating the incident.
