Clare County Council hopes that it will be in a position to remove a reduced speed limit from a portion of the main Ennis-Kilrush Road by the middle of next month.

A reduced speed limit has been in place on the N68 at Caherea, Lissycasey since June of last year dye to what the Council describes as the ‘substandard condition’ of the road.

It has been criticised by some drivers, who have complained that the reduction to 50 killometres per hour is dangerous and frustrating.

However, the end could be in sight as works are due to begin there today, and it’s expected that the temporary speed limit will be removed by mid-November.

At present the area is being looked at as part of an overall speed limit review for the county, and a periodic speed limit could be implemented at Caherea National School next year.
