Woman Critical Following Early Morning Stabbing

A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed several times in Dublin city centre this morning. 

A man in 40s was arrested shortly afterwards and a technical examination is due to be carried out at the scene shortly.

The woman, who's in her 40s, was stabbed just before 8 o'clock this morning.

She suffered several stab wounds at the stairwell of the School Street flats and was rushed to St. James' hospital.

Her condition is described as critical but stable.

A man was arrested a short time after the attack and he was taken to Kevin Street Garda Station for questioning. 

The scene has been sealed off to allow for a technical examination and Gardai are appealing for witnesses.
