It’s understood that it’s only the second time that a Michelin Star has been awarded in Clare.

Michelin has a long history of reviewing restaurants, dating back to 1900, and the Star has become a hallmark of fine dining.

To this day, the company relies entirely on its full-time staff of anonymous restaurant reviewers and it’s said that the acquisition or loss of the Michelin star can have a major impact on any restaurant.

Lisdoonvarna’s Wild Honey Inn is the first pub in Ireland to be awarded the Michelin Star and is the only newcomer to join the 11 restaurants in the country with the prestigious award.

The pub dates back to 1860 and has been run run by Chef Aidan McGrath and his partner Kate Sweeney since their takeover in 2009.

Aidan says the honour is something he’s always dreamed of.

The Wild Honey Inn provides food which places an emphasis on the French classical genre, using wild, local produce and now owners Aidan and Katie hope to build on the success of their newly acquired Michelin Star.

Aidan McGrath says it’s been a long road to success but he hopes it’ll benefit the entire region.

Tributes and messages of congratulations have been pouring in for Aidan and Kate.
