West Clare Psychiatrist Calls For Further Research On Anti-Depressant Drugs

A West Clare Psychiatrist believes the HSE needs to carry out further research into the over prescription of anti-depressant drugs in some parts of the country.

A new analysis has found that the number of patients on publicly funded drug schemes being prescribed these drugs jumped by 18% between 2012 and 2017, with the doses of these medications increasing by 28% during that period.

The problem is more acute in urban areas with high levels of poverty and depression, while the rates for Clare is among the lowest in the country.
