West Clare Man Appears In Court Charged With Dangerous Driving Causing Death

A 29-year old west Clare man today appeared in court charged with the dangerous driving causing the death of Alan Rynne (30) in June of last year.

At Ennis District Court, Tadhg O’Neill of Poulawilliam, Miltown Malbay is charged with the dangerous driving causing the death of Mr Rynne on June 18th last at Caherogan, Miltown Malbay.

Mr Rynne of CorrigInagh was a back-seat passenger in the car being driven by Mr O’Neill in the fatal crash.

Mr O’Neill and a front seat female passenger sustained non life threatening injuries in the crash when the red Volkswagen struck the left side of a stone bridge on the main R474 road, 3km from Miltown Malbay.

The tragedy occurred shortly after 4am on the Monday morning.

Insp David Finnerty told the court today that the case will be going forward on indictment to the circuit court and a Book of Evidence will be required.

Those convicted of dangerous driving causing death face up to ten years in jail on conviction.

Mr O’Neill is also facing a charge of driving with excess alcohol, driving with no insurance, careless driving and dangerous driving at the same location on the same date.

Judge Patrick Durcan granted legal aid to solicitor, Daragh Hassett in the case.

Mr O’Neill was accompanied to court today by family members.

Judge Durcan remanded Mr O’Neill on bail on his own bond for the serving of a Book of Evidence in the case to Ennis District Court on July 19th.
