Welcome For New Commercial Development On Southside Of Ennis

LIDL Ireland has welcomed a Clare County Council decision to grant to the go-ahead for a new commercial development, which will house it’s second supermarket in the town.

Residential units, office blocks and ancillary buildings will be demolished on land between the Clare Road and Toberteascain, to make way for a neighbourhood centre, including the supermarket, a childcare unit and other retail units.

In a statement to Clare FM, LIDL says it will result in the creation of up to 50 permanent jobs once the store opens, as well as a further 100 jobs during the construction phase.

However, it will likely also prompt concern from existing businesses in the town centre.

The development is subject to 21 conditions and can be further appealed to An Bord Pleanala, but Mayor of Ennis, Fianna Fáil Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that she hopes it pushes ahead.
