Fresh Fears In Doonbeg After Storm Ciara Results In Significant Damage To Coast

Fresh fears have emerged over the lack of coastal protection in Doonbeg, after Storm Ciara resulted in significant damage.

The PRO of the Doughmore Coastal Protection Group claims 1.8 metres of dunes disappeared, on one section of the beach, during the adverse weather conditions last weekend.

With Storm Dennis approaching our shores in the coming days, Liam Ryan is concerned about the impact of weather conditions on the beach, the hotel and golf course there, and ultimately the huge numbers working in the area.

A long-awaited decision on coastal protection works, which was due to be made in October 2018, is expected in the coming weeks but Liam Ryan says it’s high time the Government stepped in to move the process forward.
