Storm Hannah: Council Responds To 70 Call-Outs & Thousands Remain Without Power This Morning

Clare County Council crews responded to 70 call outs throughout the night as Storm Hannah battered the county.

A significant number of downed trees have been dealt with and debris on the national and regional roads has since been cleared.

Council crews will continue to work throughout the day as the clean-up operation continues but the local authority is urging people to remain cautious when out and about on the roads.

Power outages have affected the water plant at Doolough, which caused some disruption to water supply for a time, but supply has since been restored, and there are currently no other major problems reported.

Just under 2,790 Clare homes remain without power this morning.

Areas affected include Ennistymon, Lahinch, Cranny, Clarecastle, Kilmaley, Quin, Ennis, Tulla and Scariff.

Additional crews have been deployed to the county and the ESB is confident that power will be restored to all homes by the end of the day.

They’re estimating that most areas in Clare will have full supply by 8pm.

Meanwhile, a Lahinch businessman has criticised the level of weather warnings that are being issued.

A red weather alert was issued for Clare during the height of the storm.

But while shop owner, Robert Kennedy, believes people do pay attention to the most severe weather alerts, he thinks there are too many lower level warnings.
