The man who lost his life in a swimming incident off Kilkee yesterday was a noted coach.
David Weldrick, who had been living in Limerick, was a lecturer in sports at UL for many years, as well as a successful coach of sports including Gaelic Football.
The 71 year old was pronounced dead at University Hospital Limerick yesterday after he had been airlifted there, a short time after a multi-agency operation to rescue him from the waters at Newfoundout.
Mr. Weldrick was brought ashore by passers-by and Coast Guard volunteers, and the Coast Guard has also expressed gratitude to those who assisted at the incident, including local lifeguards.
