A contractor has been appointment for upgrade works on the Shannon Town Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The successful tender, Ward and Burke, will sign the contract with work expected to commence early next year on the upgrades.
The plant was built in the 1970s and a recent EPA report found that it no longer has the capacity or long-term resilience to consistently treat waste water to the required standard
