Bathing advisory notices have been erected at Lahinch beach.

Clare County Council says elevated levels of bacteria have been found during routine testing.

This has been caused by recent excessive rainfall, and the resultant runoff from land surrounding Lahinch Bay.

The notices are not advising people to not swim, but beach users are advised to avoid swallowing or splashing water, to wash hands before handling food, and to avoid swimming with an open cut or wound, or if you’re pregnant or have a weakened immune system.

Lifeguard cover remains in place, and the notices will be in effect until further testing indicates a reduction in bacteria levels.
