ULHG Committed To Engaing With Porters Over Break Room Row

The UL Hospitals Group says it’s committed to continuing engagement with porters and their representatives to resolve an ongoing row over a break room at the region’s main hospital.

Hospital porters down tools for a second time this month, after management at University Hospital Limerick took the decision to close the room.

The hospitals group says it has been consulting with porters and their representatives since July in an effort to stop some porters from smoking in the room, which is not permitted by law.

But it says that despite multiple requests from management, and the instigation of disciplinary procedures in the case of some individual porters, smoking in the break room continued, and a decision was taken to close it.
