UHL Tightens Visiting Restrictions Amid Winter Vomiting Bug Outbreak

Visiting restrictions at the region’s main hospital have been tightened following an outbreak of the highly contagious winter vomiting bug.

A ban has been imposed on all visitors except those in the ICU, High Dependency Unit, Coronary Care Unit and pediatric patients until further notice.

Even in these cases, it’s restricted to one visitors per patient only and within set visiting hours, while there’s an outright ban on children visiting wards.

The winter vomiting bug, known as norovirus, causes vomiting, abdominal cramps and diarrhoea and anyone who thinks they may have contracted it should contact their GP by phone in the first instance.
