Two Arrested Following Ennis Crash

Two men have been arrested in connection with a road crash in Ennis last night.

A man in his forties, who was out walking, was critically injured after two cars collided on the Gort Road.

Emergency services were alerted shortly before 10 o'clock last night following a collision involving two cars and a pedestrian at Sheils roundabout on the Gort Road. 

A male pedestrian, aged in his 40s, was seriously injured. He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where he remains in a critical condition.

The occupants of one of the cars, two males aged 25 & 19 years, fled the scene on foot. 

They were followed and apprehended by an off duty Garda before being arrested a short distance away. 

They were treated for minor injuries and are currently being detained at Ennis Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The occupants of the second car, two females aged in their 60s, were also taken to University Hospital Limerick. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Garda forensic collision investigators have examined the scene and the road has since reopened to traffic. 

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who was in the nearby filling station and shopping centre to contact them.
