Trumps Issue Doonbeg Erosion Warning

Donald Trump's company has threatened to hold Clare County Council liable for any income that could be lost at his Doonbeg Golf Club, should remedial works there be delayed.

Legal representatives of Trump International Hotel and Golf Links in Doonbeg have written to the Council, after the local authority issued an enforcement notice blocking an attempt to use rock armour to halt coastal erosion.

Trump's representatives say the damage, arising out of this year's storms, is becoming worse on a daily basis, has left five holes unplayable and the course inoperable.

In a meeting with the Council, the Trumps have said the situation is so serious that it could see the course close, with the loss of 350 jobs, though a resolution was found and planning conditions set down for the course in 2011 will be complied with.

However, the Council has been warned that due to the emergency situation, any obstruction to repairs will force the club to hold it responsible for any resulting damages, including lost income and livelihoods.

The letter also states that the Trump family looks forward to a great relationship with the Council for many years to come, and says 'with absolute certainty' the Trumps will make Clare and Ireland very proud.
