Tributes paid following death of Brian Lenihan

Tributes are being paid to the former Finance Minister Brian Lenihan who died this morning at the age of 52.

The well known Fianna Fall Politician had battled pancreatic cancer since 2009.

His death has been described as a huge loss to Irish politics and a devastating personal tragedy for his family

Locally Fianna Fail representatives in Clare have expressed sadness at the death of Brian Lenihan with TDs past and present describing him as a great loss to Irish politics.

The former Finance Minister’s grandfather came from Kilfenora and colleagues say he was very proud of his North Clare Connections.

Former Fianna Fail Minister and TD Tony Killeen – who gave up politics due to his own personal battle with cancer  – said Brian Lenihan and he had shared personal experiences of their illness.

He described the former Finance Ministers attitude as remarkably strong and courageous.

Local Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley has offered his sympathies to Mr Lenihan’s friends and relatives, and said his death was a sad loss for his family and the Fianna Fail party.

Former Clare Fianna Fail Minister, TD and Senator Brendan Daly remembers Brian Lenihan since his first election to Dáil Eireann and described him as a politician of great ability
