A public consultation will be held later this year as part of a new transport strategy for the Limerick-Shannon area.

The National Transport Authority is working with the Councils in Limerick and Clare on the strategy, which is in line with plans for Project Ireland 2040.

Rail, bus and cycling measures will all be considered as part of the plan, which some local representatives argue is of vital importance for the MidWest region.

Transport Minister Shane Ross agrees that it’ll play an important role going forward.
