Transport Minister Indicates Dept May Support Shannon Greenway

The Transport Minister has indicated that his Department may support a mooted Shannon greenway.

The project, which would run from the River’s source in Cavan to the Shannon Estuary, has been the brainchild of East Clare businessman Eoin O’Hagan and would be the country’s longest Greenway, or off-road route for cyclists and walkers.

€56 million is to be spent on greenways between 2018 and 2021, as part of a strategy to develop such routes, and it’s likely that an application will be made for the Shannon route as part of that.
