Transatlantic Jet Makes Emergency Landing At Shannon Airport

A transatlantic jet has made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport this morning.

American Airlines flight AA-62 was travelling from Miami in the US to Paris when the crew requested permission to divert and land at the mid-west airport.

The crew of the Boeing 777-200 jet advised air traffic controllers of a possible fire in the cargo hold.

The flight landed safely at 7.10am and the passengers were taken into the terminal building.

Fire crews from Shannon Town are at the scene providing back up for the airports own fire and rescue service while crews from Ennis were placed on standby at a holding point near Dromoland.

An inspection of the aircraft is currently underway.
