Clare Hotelier Issues Stark Warning Of Difficult Year For Hotel Sector

A prominent Clare hotelier is warning that the sector is facing an extremely difficult year unless changes are implemented to reduce costs on their businesses.

A survey from the Irish Hotels Federation has found that just a third of hotel owners are expecting a positive 2020, with the level of rates payable to the local authority and rising insurance costs to blame.

The continued tourism VAT rate of 13.5%, which was hiked from 9% at the start of last year, is also said to be damaging business sentiment.
