Thousands Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day Throughout Clare

Fine weather on this St. Patrick's Day has seen people from throughout Clare take part in celebrations for the national holiday.

Huge crowds turned out for the parade in Ennis, where dozens of floats and Grand Marshall Keith Whyte travelled through the town centre.

Parades have also taken place, or are currently ongoing, in Feakle, Liscannor, Kilfenora, Kilkee and Sixmilebridge.

Later, there will be more St. Patrick's Day celebrations in Shannon, Killaloe, Kilrush, Tuamgraney, Ennistymon , Miltown Malbay and in Tulla.

There will also be a Clare delegation in the world's largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York later.

That will be led down Fifth Avenue by Council Cathaoirleach John Crowe.

Staying in the US and in Washington the Taoiseach is meeting the U.S. vice-president Joe Biden in Washington.

The breakfast meeting at the vice-president’s residence comes ahead of a bilateral meeting with President Barack Obama in the coming hours.

Enda Kenny will present President Obama with the traditional Bowl of Shamrock in the Oval office.

He'll also give him a hamper of Irish food, to help promote Ireland’s burgeoning food industry – that will include Irish salmon from the Burren smokehouse and a range of farmhouse cheeses.

Enda Kenny hopes to raise the issue of immigration reform during this evening's meeting.
