Teagasc rule out uturn on Clare offices closure

 

Clare farmers have been told that the decision to close two of the county’s four Teagasc offices will not be reversed

Plans are in place to close the Ennistymon Teagasc office on the first of August, with the Scariff office due to shut it’s doors by the end of next year.

No jobs will be lost in the move, as the posts will be transferred to offices in Ennis and Kilrush.

Calls have been made by farming bodies and by local representatives to retain the offices but Area Manager of Teagasc Clare Gerard McMahon says that won’t happen.

He says staffing cutbacks means there is no alternative to the closures.
