Teachers To Decide Next Week On Possible Industrial Action

The Clare President of the INTO has stopped short of ruling out strike action at the country’s primary schools.

Members of the Irish National Teachers Organisation have rejected a government pay offer for new entrants aimed at ending a long running dispute over a two-tier pay system.

Since 2011, new teachers have been employed on a different salary to existing staff.

Education Minister, Joe McHugh has expressed disappointment over the latest development, bus says he’s willing to engage constructively with the union.

Corofin native Joe Killeen has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that while the union is willing to engage further on the matter, a decision will be made next week on potential industrial action.
