Tanaiste Defends Shannon’s Use By U.S. Military Following Pence’s Troops Address

The Tanaiste has insisted that an address to US troops by the US Vice President at Shannon Airport represents standard international practice.

Mike Pence’s speech to troops who were passing through the Airport ten days ago led to condemnation from certain quarters, and questions on what it meant for Ireland’s neutrality.

Simon Coveney insists that remains, and has re-iterated the government’s stance that requests US Military flights to land at Shannon are only granted when certain conditions are met.
