Suggestion That Economic Factor Could Be Behind Domestic Violence Bill Decision

Safe Ireland is questioning whether economic factors are behind a decision not to make domestic abuse an offence.

A joint committee researching the issue recommended that the term “domestic violence” be deemed a crime, covering both physical and psychological abuse within a relationship.

But, the Justice Minister has taken advice from the DPP, who’s said it would be too difficult in court to separate domestic abuse from so-called “ordinary assault”.
