Success in retest of Ennis Water Plant

Ennis’s four year long boil notice could soon be nearing its end soon.

Testing of the new plant, which serves over 30 thousand residents in the town, has passed a key stage after an unsuccessful first attempt.

It has just completed its 8 day commissioning phase and once test results are received by Clare County Council, the second phase of the commissioning process will begin.

During the 8 day testing period, the ongoing problem of organic matter came to a head with very heavy rain in the county last weekend which, previously, has caused the level in the reservoir to fall which meant that the water supply had to revert back to the interim plant.

This did not happen during this testing period, the new plant passed with flying colours and hopes are high within the local authority that the second commissioning phase will also be successful

Following the completion of the second phase of testing, the HSE along with the Environmental Protection Agency, will decide on the lifting of the partial boil notice that has been in operation in the town for the last four years.
