Status Red Weather Warning Issued For Clare

Met Eireann has issued its highest level weather alert for Clare, ahead of the arrival of ex-hurricane Ophelia this Monday.

Forecasters are warning of possible structural damage, and flooding

It has been issued for Clare, as well as other western coastal counties from Cork to Mayo.

While forecasters have indicated that conditions will likely be at their worst on Monday afternoon and evening, the warning is currently in place from 6:00 am on Monday until 3:00 am on Tuesday.

Mean wind speeds of 80 km/h and gusts in excess of 130 km/h are forecasted, potentially causing structural damage and disruption.

Flooding is also possible, with dangerous marine conditions and high seas.

Met Eireann has said it will continue to issue updates throughout the weekend, while Clare County Council is monitoring the situation
