There are now 5,935 people signing on in County Clare – that’s down from 5,949 in December.

Ennis saw just two people come off the live register in January, while the Tulla area had the biggest drop with 21 people entering employment.

In the West of the county, there are now seven fewer people signing on in areas associated with the Kilrush social Welfare office.

However, an extra 14 people around Ennistymon joined dole queues in the same period – the only region in the county to experience a rise in unemployment last month.

Overall, there are currently almost 780 fewer people on the live register in Clare than there were this time last year.
