Last month saw 482 leave the county’s dole queues.

September traditionally sees a fall, as schools and colleges return, and this year’s drop is smaller than in 2016.

However, year on year, dole queues have reduced by a total of 886 or by 14%.

Two-thirds of those who left the dole queues in Clare last month did so in areas associated with the social welfare office in Ennis.

There, the total number signing on is below 3,000 for the first time since May of 2008.

There were drops in other parts of the county too – down by 69 in East Clare, by 57 in East Clare and by 28 in the North of the county.
