Significant Drop In Clare Crime Levels

There’s been a significant drop in the level of crime in Clare in the past year.

New figures revealed at today’s Joint Policing Committee Meeting in Ennis show the number of incidents relating to burlaries, theft and arson were all down in 2016, compared to the previous year.

At today’s Joint Policing Committee meeting, the Head of the Clare Garda Division has expressed satisfaction over the reduction in crime across the county in the past year.

Chief Superintendent John Kerin has noted a 25% reduction in burglaries across the county as a whole, however there was a rise in the Killaloe and Kilkee areas.

Aggravated burglaries were down by a third, as was arson, and thefts from properties were down 40%.
On the roads, there was a 16% increase in the level of drink driving arrests in 2016 and a 67% increase in the number of vehicles seized by Gardaí

However, concern has been over a rise in road deaths – there were 4 in Clare in 2016 compared with 2 the previous year.

In all, there were over 25,600 incidents recorded on the Garda Pulse System in 2016 including 70 missing persons reports, 291 domestic disputes, over 1,700 drug related seraches, and 91 sudden deaths.
