Shannon could be facing a double jobs blow today.

Staff at Shannon Aerospace are set to meet management this morning over a restructuring plan at the aircraft maintenance facility amid fears for over a 100 jobs.

While its believed that Elsevier -which employs over 100 staf at its East Park Facility  is also set to make an annoucnment about its future.

 Staff at Shannon Aerospace are bracing themselves for the worst this morning as yet another major company prepares to shed some of its workforce in an effort to maintain competitiveness in the economic downturn.

The expected job losses have been described as a body blow for the region given that company is one of the largest employers in Clare with 628 full time staff, a number of part time workers and 97 trainees at the facility near Shannon Airport.

At 9.30 workers will meet with senior management to discuss a re-organisation of the company- which is a subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik and its plans to sustain a viable business in the region.

While it wont comment on claims that up 180 jobs could be axed – other sources suggest the numbers could be much lower than that.

This morning meeting is expected to last up to an hour , after which managing director of Shannon Aerospace Thomas Ructkert will outline the firm’s plans to members of the media.

Senior officials will then hold talks with local political representatives and other relevant groups his afternoon.

There are fears for the future of jobs at another Shannon based company.

Elsevier -which publishes online medical and science journals, is also due to make an announcement about its future.
