Shannon Airport has made the grass at its airfield available to cut for silage, in a bid to help farmers struggling through the fodder crisis.

A severe shortage of available feed for livestock has been felt across the country due to adverse weather conditions, which has resulted in animals being housed for much longer than usual.

The airfield at Shannon was also cut during the last crisis in 2013, with the 400 acres producing 1,600 bales of silage for farmers.
