As things stand, Shannon Airport’s only major EU hub is London Heathrow.

This means that once the UK leaves the European Union on March 29th, the Midwest facility will be without a European hub; something that has caused widespread concern locally in recent months.

But following a meeting arrange by Senator O’Donnell between Shannon Group and the Transport Minister, a plan will now be compiled and submitted to the Minister with a goal to securing such a link.

It comes as passenger numbers at the airport are continuing to grow, with 2018 proving its best year in a decade.

Over 1.8 million passengers passed through Shannon last year but with the capacity for 4.5 million, it’s hoped the addition of a new EU hub will see this grow even further.
