Seanad Backs Labour Bill To Use CCTV In Dumping Fight

The Seanad has moved a step closer to permitting Clare County Council and other local authorities to use CCTV to help them prosecute dumpers.

Concerns relating to GDPR have led some local authorities to put the brakes on the use of cameras in catching fly tippers and illegal dumpers, but a Labour Bill which aims to put the use of cameras on a more firm legal footing has now progressed through the latest stage of the legislative process.

Councils nationally are spending tens of millions of euro in tackling littering and dumping, while in Clare last year there were over 1,100 complaints related to the issue.
