‘Save Our Sucklers’ Event Takes Place In Ennis Tonight

A “save our sucklers” event is being held in Ennis tonight to highlight what’s been described as a ‘steady erosion in the level of support targeted towards the suckler sector’.

There are over 100,000 Irish Farm Families directly engaged in the production and finishing of suckler bred animals and in 2017 Irish Beef exports totaled 2.5 billion euro, but despite this there’s been a drop in support of around €200 per cow.

Concerns have also been raised that the Mercusor trade deal with South American Countries could further undermine the sector.
