The lifeboat crew at Lough Derg have rescued a stranded sailor, who’s boat was being dragged by its anchor towards rocks on the Clare coast.

The Lough Derg RNLI rescue vessel was launched shortly after 6 o’clock last evening, where they discovered a passenger aboard a 23 foot speed boat.

It had broken down by the Goat Road on the eastern shore of the lake but was being dragged towards the rocky shore on the Clare side.

The skipper of the boat was found to be unharmed and wearing their life jacket, while the fault on-board was found to most likely be an electrical failure.

Dom Sharkey from the Lough Derg RNLI commended the passenger for calling for help immediately and urged anyone who gets in trouble to do so too.
