Ross Insists Shannon Airport Change Isn’t Downgrade

The Transport Minister has insisted that a change in the categorisation of Shannon Airport doesn’t amount to downgrading.

Sinn Féin and others have queried the move which will see a lowering of Shannon’s status from Category 9 to Category 7 for part of the time.

It means that the Airport will not be able to take some of the largest aircraft types when operating at the lower status.

Sinn Féin representatives have criticised the move in both the Dáil and Seanad in recent weeks, but Minister Shane Ross believes it is appropriate.
