Speed Limit Changes The “Greatest Threat To West Clare”

The change in speed limits on one road in the county has been described as “the greatest threat to West Clare, since the foundation of the state”.

There are now shy of 11 speed changes on the 43 kilometer N68 Ennis to Kilrush road, following a two year consultation, which examined a wide range of county roads and took into account the views from local communities.

There’s increasing concern, however, that slower speeds will ultimately result in more accidents on the road, rather than improve safety.

A Kilrush-based Solicitor has written to Transport Infrastructure Ireland about the matter and in response to a query from Clare FM the TII has said that it will respond to the letter.

Patrick Moylan of O’Kelly Moylan Solicitors has told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that leaving the new limits in place will spell the end of West Clare.
