Clare Gardaí are urging anyone who is heading out for the biggest night of the long weekend tonight to park it, lock it and leave it.

A number of extra checkpoints have been mounted as part of Operation Lockdown, a specific Garda plan which places emphasis on the hours of between 7pm and 4am.

Along with drink-driving, speeding and seatbelt wearing, Gardaí will also be on the lookout for pedestrians who are posing a risk by walking home under the influence.
