Gardaí are extending speed cameras to a total of 37 stretches of road in Clare from this morning.
Gardaí say the changes come based on an analysis of a series road traffic accidents, which has also seen over 500 former speed camera zones nationally removed from the list.
Here, the net result of the changes means there are 12 additional speed camera zones in Clare, located throughout the county on national roads and on the motorway, as well as Regional roads and stretches of road in Ennis and Shannon towns.
Controversially, signs warning that speed cameras could be in operation in a given location are being removed, with Gardaí saying they want drivers to focus on maximum-speed signs.
Conor Faughnan from the AA says that’s disappointing.
