Carey Calls For Naming And Shaming Of Councils Not Using Road Repair Budgets

A Clare government TD is calling for local authorities which fail to use their full allowance for the repair of rural roads to be named and shamed.

It follows confirmation by the Minister for Rural and Community Development that just €5.6 of the €10 million made available nationwide under the Local Improvement Scheme has been drawn down so far this year.

This funding goes towards the upgrade of smaller roads and boreens in rural parts of the country and Minister Michael Ring says uptake has been disappointing.
