The local RNLI were called to two incidents within a short time of each other yesterday afternoon.

Just before half past 2 yesterday, the lifeboat launched to assist a family of seven on a 40ft cruiser which ran aground at the Goat Road.

The crew located the group of three adults and four children a short time later and found them unharmed.

The vessel was then pulled from the rocks and, after being checked for damage, sailed under its own power to Dromineer

At 3.20pm, on their return journey, Valentia Coast Guard requested Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat to go the assistance of a family of five, whose 35ft cruiser had run aground on a rocky shoal by Ryan’s Point.

The RNLI crew found those aboard uninjured.

This boat was also towed from the rocks and continued on its journey undamaged.
