Rinnen Ambush Centenary Celebrations

A small ceremony has taken place near Miltown Malbay today, on the 100th anniversary of the Rinnen Ambush.

The IRA attack on RIC forces gave rise to a number of reprisal attacks in one of the most significant events of the War of Independence up until that time.

This morning, a wreath was laid at a plaque marking the site of the ambush by Joe O’Neill, whose grandfather Ignatius O’Neill was the IRA commanding officer at the time.
