Restraint Figures ‘Show Need For More Resources’ In Mental Health

The Clare-based President of the Irish College of Psychiatrists says new figures highlight a lack of early intervention or services needed for people suffering with mental health issues.

The Inspector of Mental Health Services has found that residents of approved mental health centres across the country were physically restrained or secluded an average of 4 times each over the course of a year.

The inspector pointed out that this may be due to a lack of resources, both physical and from a staffing point of view.
